Holden Caulfield

Holden is a huge hypocrite because of the fact that he tries to act like an adult and he thinks every adult is phony. Mr. Antolini is an adult and Holden doesn’t think he is phony. Holden, in my opinion, is kind of strange and i can see why he is in a mental hospital.

Taylor, I’m really happy for you. Ima let you finish….but Beyonce had one of the Greatest Videos of All Time- Kanye West

This is a quote from the MTV Music Awards, when Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift as she was going to make her speech. He grabbed the mike and said this line. I was OUTRAGED. Kanye West is a huge adult phony completely in his own world. Obviously Taylor Swift had the best music video and We kids did not need him to butt in and give his opinion. Kanye West is a true phony adult.

This homeless person is a phony. He is trying to get people to give him money by making up a lie. He is trying to trick people and deprive them of their cash by making this sign. His phony lies about his family being kidnapped are ridiculous and slightly funny. Despite the laughs i got from reading his sign. i hate the fact that he is a phony and the fact that he is trying to gain something out of his phoniness.

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

Yeah
I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
Cause after all the partyin’ and smashin’ and crashin’
And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time where you fade to the blackness
And when you’re staring at that phone in your lap
And you hoping but them people never call you back
But that’s just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel
And they sayin’ what would you wish for
If you had one chance
So airplane airplane sorry I’m late
I’m on my way so don’t close that gate
If I don’t make that then I’ll switch my flight
And I’ll be right back at it by the end of the night

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

This song is showing the phoniness in the adults and how they are trying to fool themselves that airplanes are like shooting stars. This song is also tricking kids that are listening that shooting stars can grant them wishes. This is a prime example of the phoniness of the adult world. many of these lines are misleading to kids.

Robert Frost Poetry

Revelation

We make ourselves a place apart
Behind light words that tease and flout,
But oh, the agitated hear
Till someone really find us out.

'Tis pity if the case require
(Or so we say) that in the end
We speak the literal to inspire
The understanding of a friend.

But so with all, from babes that play
At hid-and-seek to God afar,
So all who hide too well away
Must speak and tell us where they are.

Robert Frost wrote this poem to show when one is lost even in faith, they should shout out that they are having trouble believing in order to find the right path. I think that if one is dwindling from the path to God, its okay and only the phony adults care that much about their religious practices to shout out to regain focus on the true path. Phony adults try to help their fellow phonies find the right path, so they all act the same and it annoys me.

Emily Dickinson Poetry

Success is counted sweetest, By those who ne’er succeed. To comprehend a nectarRequires sorest need.  Not one of all the purple host, Who took the flag to-day, Can tell the definition,So clear, of victory,  As he, defeated, dying,On whose forbidden earThe distant strains of triumph, Break, agonized and clear.

Emily Dickinson is saying that the only ones who think success is the best thing ever are the ones who never succeed. One must first drink the nectar to understand that success isn’t always the best. For the onces who haven’t succeeded, whenever they hear anything of success it always makes them sad it wasn’t them. The adults trick kids into thinking that success is everything. Everyday in school they teach to to succeed, but why must one always succeed. they can end up like me and i am still not a phony. Success isn’t everything and even Emily Dickinson knew it, but most adults are phony and they think it is the one and only thing.

You have the word of Enceladus. Fail me…well, I’ve slept for millenia, young demigod. I am very hungry.

This excerpt is from the book The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. The main character is being tormented through a dream by a huge giant monster. He has her father captured and he wants her to betray her friends in order to save her father and herself. I despise this “adult” because he is a phony. He isn’t confronting his own problems by himself and instead is handing his job to a little girl. Although i think children are not phony, its still a bad thing to do. He is a phony because he is forcing her into helping him and i disapprove of his methods. I, Holden, hate it when adults manipulate children in any way. The phoniness of this adult isn’t only him, throughout the whole book multiple adults are trying to trick the main characters to do their bidding. Most of the Adults in the book are phonies and only a few are true to their word.

The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me; but it was rough living in the house all the time, considering how dismal regular and decent the widow was in all her ways

This is an excerpt from the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. It’s the part where Huck is in the widow’s house and she is trying to make him civilized. This book is very popular and very controversial because of the way it depicts people. Widow Douglas is a phony for trying to make Huck her “son” and she tries to teach him to be civil. Adults should keep to themselves because they are phonies and often tell us lies in order for us to accomplish certain things like how Huck is now her “son”. We kids know what we are doing and want to do what we want. It’s our freedom. Don’t try to civilize kids to make us enter the phony adult world. We kids are at bliss with our full freedom and you adults have to worry about all the phoniness in the world.

The hand of the aggressor is stayed by strength — and strength alone.(Eisenhower)

This line was said by Dwight D. Eisenhower, supreme commander during World War II and later became the 34th president, during a English speaking Union Dinner. It’s saying that any aggressor that is trying to harm people can only be stopped by hurting them. I personally believe that this quote is completely wrong and many things can be handled through political affairs. I think using more aggressive methods towards an aggressor should be the U.S. last priority. the phony adults believe that war is the only way but there are many adults, whom I believe in, that think that war is a the last resort. Phonies are everywhere in the adult world and thats why there has been so many wars. Children don’t see the need to fight when things can be solved without the use of force. While the adults are running around being phony and thinking that war is the only option, Us kids are the running along side the adults who believe war is wrong in our own little world.
